Teen Summit 2.0: The Remix's Academic Civic NILS (Name, Image, Likeness, Story) Development program empowers Summiteer cast members with real-world media, brand management, and storytelling skills. Cast members build portfolios through the Story, Aesthetics, and Interview (SAI) tracks while earning academic and civic credentials at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
The Academic Civic NILS platform is a comprehensive Name, Image, Likeness, and Story development framework designed specifically for youth civic media. Unlike traditional NIL programs focused purely on athletics or commercial endorsements, our Academic Civic NILS framework centers youth voice, civic engagement, and personal brand development within an academic context.
Summiteers earn professional media experience, build a public portfolio, and gain documented credentials that strengthen college applications and career readiness — all while contributing to public television and civic dialogue in Central Illinois.
The Academic Civic NILS program includes comprehensive parent oversight via the Parent Portal. Parents can monitor their child's profile development, review NIL analytics, approve public visibility settings, and communicate directly with the production team. All NILS activity for participants under 18 requires parental consent and is subject to COPPA compliance protocols.
Illinois law (765 ILCS 1075, the Right of Publicity Act) and the Illinois Child Vlogger law (effective July 2024) require that minors featured in video content be fairly compensated. Our NILS program is designed to meet and exceed these legal requirements.
