You Were Chosen

Your voice, your civic work, your next chapter. Academic Civic NIL helps Summiteers develop a portfolio around the issues that matter to them.

Your work belongs to you.

Build a civic identity through research, media and public conversation. The next step is a portfolio of Academic Civic NIL work that reflects your interests and your choices.

The roster shows only cleared public introductions. Profiles remain private until the required permissions and the Summiteer's publication choice are in place.

Speak Out

A space for your own perspective, with entry formats and releases confirmed before anything goes public.

The next chapter.

A college application and workshop calendar is being prepared as a private Summiteer resource, pending approval of its audience and dates.

What you'll gain.

Teen Summit pairs civic learning with practical experience in public media. Summiteers develop their voice through professional media training, public speaking, mentorship and portfolio work.

  • Professional media training and public speaking skills
  • Academic Civic NIL development and responsible personal branding
  • Portfolio content for college applications and career development
  • Mentorship from industry professionals and University of Illinois faculty
  • Connections with peers who care about making a difference

Three forms of capital.

Intellectual capital

Develop critical thinking, research and dialogue skills. Explore musicology and the cultural, historical and social contexts that shape music as civic expression.

Social capital

Build meaningful connections with fellow Summiteers, mentors, educators and media professionals.

Financial capital

Learn ethical professional brand-building and how to evaluate future opportunities. Participation compensation is separate from any potential NIL earnings; no partnership income is guaranteed.

Learning with families.

The Communiversity approach treats civic education as a shared effort. Training, workshops and learning materials support Summiteers and their families, with enrolled participants receiving access to the University's Canvas learning platform.
